Vauvenargues Village

dimanche 16 mars 2008, par Schaefer

13 km away from Aix-en-Provence, in the Cause River valley, Vauvenargues faces Montagne Sainte Victoire, which was made famous by Cezanne’s paitings.

This well-preserved site lies in an exceptional environment.

The castle facing the house belongs to the PICASSO family. The painter himself chose to be buried here, in the shade of age-old oaks and pine trees.

This picturesque village has an old washing place, traditional houses with typical friezes and red curved tile roofs, and terrace cultivated olive trees on the nearby slopes.

A quiet and sunny place near the Bimont dam.

Very healthy climate thanks to altitude (400m above sea level) and lush Mediterranean vegetation.

Picasso’s castle : tranquillity and harmony

The church : soul of the village

The village main street : traditional atmosphere is alive and well
